For Immediate release:

Interim Haywood County Manager Joel Mashburn has appointed Patrick Johnson, RN-C, MPA, to serve as Interim Health and Human Services Director.
Mr. Johnson has been with Haywood County Health and Human Services since 2015 and has served as Public Health Director for the agency since January 2016.  A Minnesota native, Johnson spent 27 years in the United States Air Force Reserve, ultimately rising to the rank of colonel (chief nurse executive).  His military career was spent delivering clinical and administrative medical services around the globe, including tours of duty in both Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Johnson also accrued 31 years of public health experience and expertise as a community health nurse, epidemiology director, and health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Volusia and Flagler counties.
Since joining Haywood County Health and Human Services, Johnson has improved service delivery efficiencies and implemented electronic health records for clinical and dental services, as well as online restaurant inspections records.  He also launched innovative initiatives such as providing pack-and-plays for eligible families to ensure safe sleep spaces for infants, giving away donated children’s books in agency waiting areas to encourage literacy, and establishing an employee wellness initiative.  Johnson has also proven to be a valued and trusted teammate to other service directors within the Health and Human Services Agency.  Mr. Johnson’s knowledge, professionalism, and proven dedication to agency staff and the well-being of Haywood County citizens made him an ideal candidate to serve as Interim Health and Human Services Director, said Mashburn.
“It’s a privilege to be selected for this interim role,” states Johnson.  “I will strive to meet the expectations of the staff and community.”
